FLCL Review

AFooly Cooly (or FLCL or Furi kuri) is a Sci-Fi Anime about a boy with an alien super being in his forehead…still here? Good.

The plot follows Naota Nandaba, a prototypical moody 12-year-old Japanese kid trying his best to be mature. He spends his days entertaining his older brothers ex-girlfriend, Mamimi. That is until he gets run over by Haruko Haruhara, an investigator for the Galactic Space Patrol. After hitting Naota with her Vespa (a scooter), she promptly hits him over the head with an electric bass guitar, thus beginning a series of ridiculous events that is sure to at the very least entertain you.

This six episode anime, rightly categorized under Mindf*ck, blends very important moments of plot progression with total nonsense.  For instance When Haruko unceremoniously moves into Naota’s house, the animation switches to manga strips and the explanation as to why is given while Naota’s father and grandfather rant (quite madly) about Naota’s relationship with Haruko. The result is the viewer both leans forward towards their screens to fully grasp everything that’s going on and falling out of their seats with laughter at the Mad Hatter-esque humor.

As this rather short but engrossing anime progresses the action and comedy increases, resulting in a rather spectacular ending, definitely Satisfying critics and fans alike. The critically acclaimed has developed a rather large and well deserved cult following. Fooly Cooly is one step short of a masterpiece. In an era where originality is dead, it madly stands out as defiant. I highly recommend you do yourself a favor and watch this anime not once, but twice.

And of course, the best place to watch it is here on Animezor.com
